Phone Interviews
The goal of a phone interview is to receive an invitation for a next-round interview.
Below are some important reminders and considerations when preparing for a phone interview:
- Ensure that your resume, a short list of your accomplishments, and two to three high-level questions are readily available when you take the interview.
- Have a notebook, or alternative method for notetaking, nearby. This allows you to jot down key points during the conversation and provides a valuable reference for reviewing important details after the interview.
- Charge all relevant technology devices prior to the interview taking place.
- Take the call from a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted. Make sure that where you take the call from has good cell phone service.
- Turn off all notifications, including social media, email, and text messages to avoid any disruptions. Your full attention should be focused on the interview.
- Speak deliberately and take your time when answering questions. Enunciate clearly to avoid miscommunication and ensure the interviewer can absorb your responses effectively.
