Phone interviews
The goal of a phone interview is to receive an invitation for the next round in the process.
Here are some important reminders and considerations when preparing for a phone interview:
- Make sure you have your resume, a short list of your accomplishments, and two to three high-level questions readily available.
- Have a notebook, or another method for notetaking, nearby so you can jot down key points during the conversation and use your notes as a valuable reference for reviewing important details after the interview.
- Charge every device you’ll need prior to the interview taking place.
- Take the call from a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted, and make sure that location has good cell phone service.
- Turn off all notifications, including social media, email, and text messages, to avoid any disruptions.
- Speak deliberately and take your time when answering questions. Enunciate clearly to avoid miscommunication and make sure the interviewer can absorb your responses.
